Royal Palm Marina is another great place (restaraunt name is Zeke's). It's NOT in Sarasota but in Sarasota county and well worth the boat trip!

Spanish Point at around marker 37 has an old Florida feel, very laid back.

Do you know if there are areas where wild life would pose a danger to people swimming, are there gators, sharks or other dangerous predators in Sarasota bay, I have seen dolphins and manatee?

Pier 22 is now the place to check out. It is on the Manatee River at marker 22. It was previously named Mattison's Riverside. The owner dropped the Mattison's brand and is doing his own thing now. This is a must check…

I would add Pop's Tropic Grill just north of the Venice inlet. Limited dockage but the grouper reuben is highly recommended.
